Sam
came into our life when he was about four to five months old. We suppose
he was dropped off in our community. We have no idea where he came
from. He was barking at some stray cats on my porch on a very cold
early winter morning. I hollered at him and asked him what he thought
he was doing on my porch. He automatically went to a sitting position.
My heart melted so I brought him in and fed him. While he ate, I
talked. When he was done eating I continued to talk to him and he sat
in front of me and listened. He would cock his head back and forth as
if he was sent here for a purpose. Never have I seen a puppy with such
manners as Sam. I had decided to keep him after I searched for his
owners and no one claimed him.
We have a son that is 24 years old with the capabilities of a
two-year-old. Kevin wanders sometimes. Sam had taken to Kevin right
away. We had Sam a couple months when Kevin had taken his bike out of
the yard and took off down the road. Sam had gone with him. The
Highway Patrol ended up with Kevin and Sam. When we went to get Kevin
the police said the dog was very worried about Kevin and did not
like them touching Kevin, but Sam seemed to understand they were there
to help. Sam stayed with Kevin the whole time. Sam is also the
protector of all the animals here. He watches all that come and go and
stays by my side until he knows all is ok. He sleeps by my beside or
by Kevin's room. He is our Best Friend and Protector. The chick in the
picture was orphaned so Sam took up with him. Sam loved that little
chick.
