About Us
Sarah, the Dog of the Day
Name: Sarah
Age: Ten years old
Gender: Female Breed: Keeshond
Home: Mississippi, USA

Sarah is my heart dog. She and I connect on a deeper level than I have ever had before with any animal. She is the puppy of our dear departed Nyssa who was our first keeshond. I helped with Sarah's birth, I saw her first toddling steps, and I was there when her eyes opened. Sarah is a very special dog. She has a heart of gold. We move every four years or so with my husband's job and she always adjusts, never complains and settles in quickly. She has gone to work with me for most of my career as a Veterinary technician and never cases any trouble at the office. In fact, she often becomes the official mascot of what ever hospital we work at. At our last one, she was on the list of employees as the "Kitten Manager". Her favorite thing to do is help raise orphaned kittens. Even though she was spayed at six months and never had a litter of her own, she is willing to take on any litter of kittens I bring home. She cleans them, plays with them, tolerates them and loves them. We have a Mohawk Indian Shaman friend who gave her the official Indian name "Kisses Kittens".

Four years ago she had to have a surgery to remove a non-cancerous tumor from her parathyroid gland. Three months ago, she had to undergo the same surgery for the other side of her throat. As a result of the two surgeries her Larynx became paralyzed and she started to strangle. At this time she is up at the Vet school at MS State. She had surgery to tie back one side of her larynx so she can breath on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They had to put in a Pharangostomy tube and redo the surgery Tuesday. My poor old sweetheart has been through so much. She has given of herself to comfort me when I had cancer, she has given love and comfort to baby kittens who would have died otherwise, and she has suffered quietly through her own surgeries. She is truly a gift from God.
