Sparky
came to us from a shelter twelve years ago when he was five
months old, I still remember how he was barking in the cage and we said
we didn't want a barker. The attendant took him out of the cage and
Sparky immediately sat next to me and looked up at me with his soulful
eyes. Needless to say I was hooked and it was obvious how well he
understood people. Sparky quickly became the neighborhood dog, and all
the kids would come ring the bell and ask if he could come out and play.
He in turn became protective of all the kids so that when their parents
scolded them, they couldn't do it in front of Sparky!
Sparky would become jealous if I held a baby when the baby's parents
were around. But, if I was baby sitting, he then became the second
sitter staying close to the baby at all times. Sparky would come get me
as soon as the baby stirred in the crib before it had a chance to cry.
He's always been extremely gentle with children and would let them do
with him as they may. Sparky is now in his waning years. Arthritis has
slowed him down, yet each day he goes to visit the neighbors and say hi.
He his still very patient and gentle, and on good days, will play a
lively game of fetch with his favorite ball. You couldn't find a more
gently, loving and special pal as Sparky!
