Originally
found as a stray about a year ago, Nikolas has not had
an easy year. I am his fourth (and last) owner. His rough
beginning is what makes him so special, we have both worked very
hard. I refused to give up on him and he is now more reward than
I could have hoped for. I have never been so gratified by a
wagging tail! I think he is so special because he is allowing
himself to get attached to me. I have seen the mental and
emotional struggle that he goes through ... his instincts, based on
his history, tell him to be aloof and independent, to not care
and to "guard himself and his stuff". Over the last 6 months I
have seen him stop reacting by his old instinct, or at least cut
it off and control it. He is giving up his tough guy image and
becoming a loveable sweetie. He loves to go hiking (he carries
his own backpack) and he absolutely adores his doggie day care
where he has lots of dogs to play with. He plays for hours...the
day care helpers consider it an accomplishment if he is worn out
when I pick him up after work. He knows the usual obedience
commands (sit, stay, watch, down). Being a free-loving husky, I
don't ever thing I will have a reliable "come"...but oh well. He
loves to give "high fives" and my favorite part of the day is
when I come home and here the woo-wooing that only a husky can
give to welcome me home!
