This
is one neat dog. He has a lot of names Tux, Tuxedo, The Tuxman ...
but we're sure that he thinks his name is "No No, that's a baaaaad dog!"
Well, he is still a puppy at seven months old after all, and has some
growing up to do.
We rescued Tux from the woods where it was reported by nearby neighbors
that there was a litter of twelve puppies... they were only able to catch three
of them. These puppies were wild and desperate for some food. When I
reached to pick them up, they made a half-hearted effort to appear
ferocious and possibly bite. The pups were approximately ten weeks old
when I picked them up, cleaned them up and got them to the vet for their
first shots.
Tux was special because the first thing I did was worm the pups. When I
picked him up to move him he stiffened up like a board - and when I put
the medicine in his mouth and stroked his throat to make him swallow -
he locked his jaw and refused. Although every dog I have treated loves
the taste of this worming medicine, he let it just run out the sides of
his mouth. He 'refused' to swallow. I told him some day he would love me
- I told him "they all do," and sure enough - he found out he loved
me and he stays close to me all the time!
I found homes for two immediately. For some reason I just didn't get
anymore than two calls and Tux was still with me. He started to get
sick, and was in the vets for several days - and we found ourselves
extremely upset and worried about this particular dog. I vowed that if
he had Parvo and we had to put him down, I would hold him while he
received the injection. This was a very strange decision for me - I get
too emotional, but I felt this dog needed to have a friend if he was to
be put down.
Tux got better... recovered... and by then we felt we could not part
with him. $200.00 later - I have my 'rescued dog' and just love him to
pieces. He has chewed every item he can get his puppy teeth on - he has
turned into our most expensive "free dog" ever!!
But he looks so dapper in his bow tie, and is such a sweetheart, worth
all the time and trouble, really, and I wouldn't trade him for the world!
