This
is Paddy, my parents' Airedale Terrier. He is about six years old
and a complete nutter. For some unexplained reason when he gets
over-excited he charges out into the garden and digs a huge hole until
his front legs can't dig any deeper! He lives with my parents in Poole,
England. Like most dogs he hates squirrels and cats but he is very
good-natured with people. Unlike most Airedales his coat is hardly even
wavy, let alone curly, and his tail has not been docked. This often
makes people think that he is an Airedale crossed with something else,
which he finds very annoying.
Our previous dog (Barnum the Labrador) was a very good swimmer, but I
don't think Airedales are exactly famed for their swimming ability -
Paddy certainly isn't anyway. When it's hot he tends to wade out as far
as he can, and then sit down so that just his head is sticking out of
the water. The picture was taken in Torrevieja, Spain in June of last
year. Because quarantine laws were recently relaxed in the UK, my
parents now take him with them when they go off to Spain for three months at
a time. Talk about a dog's life!
