About Us
Baxter, the Dog of the Day
Name: Baxter
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male Breed: Golden Retriever
Home: Mishawaka, Indiana, USA

Baxter is our lovable four year old. He is the older of two 85-pound Goldens we have in our family, and they are from the same parents, two litters and two years apart. Baxter and his brother Monte love to romp and play together except when toys are involved. Baxter thinks every dog toy we have is his, and refuses to share anything with his brother - as this picture shows. When Monte manages to get a toy, Baxter will follow him around until Monte puts it down, and then will take it away.

Baxter is a very sensitive and caring dog, knowing when someone in the house is not feeling well or is upset about something, including our other animals. When we got Baxter, we had a Shepherd mix pup we named Tipper that we adopted from our local Humane Society. Baxter and Tipper were the best of friends. Unfortunately Tipper developed a problem and had numerous seizures because of his illness. While we were trying to get Tipper's seizures under control, Baxter was our most effective way to tell when Tipper was going to seize. Bax would run over to Tipper and sit with him before and during his seizures. He would then stay with Tipper and help him until he was able to walk and see on his own again. We owned a Golden before who lived to be 17-1/2 years old and was as lovable and caring as Baxter and Monte. My husband and I will always have a Golden in our house.
