This
is Tone, she's a Boerboel. She is an excellent guard dog. When she
was a puppy she chewed up one of our sitting room couches and now sleeps
on it every night in my bedroom. It is obvious she claimed it as her own!
Last year we went walking in a dry river that surrounds our farm. We
have 9 dogs and were not able to keep track of all of them. When we got
home she was missing! We went searching for her but were not able to
find her as the sun had already set. We could hear her howling but could
do nothing to help her except to keep calling her. At midnight, in a
last desperate attempt, my parents went searching for her again. They
were just ready to give up when they heard her coming through the bush.
She had been caught in a snare set by pouchers and had broken free by
breaking the wire with her paws. Her neck was bleeding and swollen and
both her front paws were cut open between her toes. She has since
recovered, but I have never allowed her to go back into the river
again! She is one of my most loved pets, and we are glad that she is
again healthy and safe.
