Harlee
is a great character. She has the ability to make me want to turn around
and forget about going to work in the morning. Her "Welcome Back" barks
and loves each time I wake in the morning or return home make her the most
special pet I've ever had.
Harlee is a very protective dog. She's affectionate to "her" people, not
overly fond of men, but is learning to behave in that respect. She is as
loving and affectionate as any animal could be without losing her
independence. She loves to go for rides in the car daily, and if we've
got a day at home planned, she insists on leaving at least once.
Insisting by leading us to the door repeatedly to go "outside" and
heading for the garage or if the garage door is open, straight for the
car. A drive around the block will suffice. But a trip to "grandma's" is
preferred. She loves squeaky-toys, more appropriately, she enjoys trying
to figure out what makes them squeak. She is also partial to any stuffed
animal in the house. Beanie babies are a protected species since Harlee
has come home with us. She is not a 'trick' dog, but when she does
something good, she waits for a "Yay!" and applause. When the applause
finally comes, she will raise her paw for a hand-paw shake.
Harlee has recently found soccer. The partially deflated soccer ball at
"grandma's" was lying in the yard, forgotten by the children, and she
took it up in her teeth one day and brought it over for some play. First
it was people kicking and Harlee "fetching" then she started kicking it
back with her front paws. She's a great soccer goalie (in doggie soccer
anyways).
