It
took us almost three weeks to decide on a fitting name for this little
boy, but as his tummy grew and his forehead wrinkled, we knew we had
found the perfect name. He always did remind me of a little old man
with a big belly. We adopted Buddha at the same shelter where we
adopted his big sister Riely exactly a year before. We wanted Riely to
have a playmate to keep her busy during the day and a companion to play
with when we were tired. He fits perfectly in the annoying little
brother role and they have loads of fun playing tug-o-war with their
rope toy. They even look alike! They have the same ears because they
are both lab mixes. Buddha is a little bundle of energy and likes to
bother Riely when she is sleeping by chewing on her tail or whatever
else is handy. He's also very alert and friendly to other dogs and
people. He can sometimes be a bit of a klutz because he is growing so
fast and is known to trip and fall over on his way to the kitchen. In
the mornings when his Daddy leaves for work he snuggles up next to me
under the blankets and puts his little head on my shoulder and breathes
in my ear. Sometimes he also barks in his sleep and his paws move as if
he's having some vivid dream of running and playing. He also likes tummy
rubs, chewing on meaty bones, and stealing our shoes. He's a very
affectionate little boy and whimpers until he gets his 'hello' kisses
when we come home. Buddha was 17 pounds at ten weeks and since then has
definitely gained at least ten more. I almost can't pick him up anymore!
He will probably grow up to be 100 pounds, but he will always be my
sweet little man.
