About Us
Skipper, the Dog of the Day
Name: Skipper
Age: One and a half years old
Gender: Female Breed: Dog
Home: Massachusetts, USA

This is my puppy Skipper Katy Francis Bannister. We got her last April from an animal shelter in Sterling. Skipper was from the SATO program there, which is when they rescue street dogs from Puerto Rico. Skipper's mother was a street dog. Skipper and her two siblings were born in a Puerto Rican "foster home" and then they were all brought to Sterling where I picked her out. But a few days after Skipper came home to us, she got very ill. She was vomiting at first. Then she would neither eat nor drink. We took her to the vet and she had to live there for a long time. She was all skin and bones. We didn't think Skipper would make it through.

But as you can see she pulled through! You would never know Skipper's history by the way she looks or acts. You might think that a Puerto Rico dog would not like the cold winters but Skipper absolutely loves them. She will run around the back yard eating and digging snow. You might think that after being so sick she would never be completely healthy. But she is happy, healthy, and such a great little girl. I love Skipper so much and I have always wanted a puppy. Every year I asked for one but my parents said no, until last Spring when they said we could get one. We looked up the shelter online and picked out Skipper from a picture. The first day they were up for adoption the shelter opened around noon, I think. Well we got there at 7 am in order to get her first!!! As other people began to arrive they all said, Oh they got here at 7, they get first choice. Everyone was so nice, it was one of the best days of my life. I sure do love my dog, and I hope from reading this you will love her too and appreciate the pets or animals in your life as much as I do mine.
