This
is Gertrude. As you can see from her face, to Gertrude, everything
is a game! She loves to play with everyone and everything, which
sometimes gets her into a little trouble. But she is so much fun to have
around that she is always quickly forgiven and the games continue.
There once was a dog named Gertrude who found joy in every little thing
in the world. She wasn't the brightest or cleverest of dogs, but they
say ignorance is bliss and, if this is true, she could be seen as
euphoric. Her favorite toy in the whole world was Squeaky Chicken, a
bright yellow plush duck that could be heard across the house when
Gertie decided it was time to play. The day she learned how to squeak it
herself she pranced all around the house squeaking joyously, oblivious
to anything other than her wonderful achievement that we all
acknowledged by sending the chicken sailing across the room, to
Gertrude's delight.
Presently, Gertrude also enjoys singing to the Lord of the Rings
soundtrack and, come to think of it, any music that involves horns.
Boney James and the Rippingtons are some of her favorites, though she
has also been known to sing along to the Star Wars sound track and the
high pitched whistle of Sandra Bullock playing the water glasses in Miss
Congeniality. The few tricks she has found it worth while to learn are
walking across the floor on her hind legs (only when a bribe is held
high above her though) and crouching precariously close to the lovebird,
Peaches, who delights in making all things bigger than her whimper and
cower in terror.
Not the bravest of creatures, Gertrude likes to show her true colors
when ever potential danger is near by tearing across the house, barking
the whole way, and turning around to tell the offender off from a very
safe distance. All in all, Gertrude is your typical cocker spaniel who
has been overly spoiled and allowed to turn into the vapid wonder we
love to see prancing around the house on dreary days or kissing our
faces when we have had a rough one. I guess that's Gertie in a nutshell.
