This
is Reba with her favorite toy snake! Reba was born into a life of
misery at a puppy mill in California. She was one of the unfortunate
dogs giving birth to all those puppies. She was deprived of food and
water and any kind touch of a human hand or heart. She was rescued,
along with 170 other dogs, on April 11, 2001. She spent six long months
at the local animal shelter and another four months in foster care,
learning to be a dog. By a stroke of good luck in January of 2002, my
husband and I were at the local pet store in Juneau, Alaska, and saw a
poster featuring Reba and her need for a special home. We decided she
needed to come live with us and be company for our five-year-old
Sheltie, Gromit. When she first came home, she didn't even know how to
wag her tail; on her first try, her tail looked like an airplane
propeller going round and round. Reba now lives a life of pampered
luxury with plenty of food, water, toys and best of all love! She has
made so much progress. She is no longer afraid of people and strange
noises - she greets strangers at the door with a tail wag. She's just
learned what dog toys are for and barked for the first time this week!
Reba has been a wonderful gift to us, and she now fills our home with joy.
