Steffi's
litter of eleven puppies, eight boys and three girls, are
German Shepherds as well. Steffi and her puppies are very special
because they are rescues. I rescued Steffi from animal control where she
was scheduled to be euthanized. Steffi and a male German Shepherd (the
puppies' Dad) had been abandoned and were living on their own for some
time. Animal Control caught them in traps and brought them in. Sadly,
Dad was euthanized before I found out about them. Steffi was in horrible
shape, very thin, filthy, and terrified of everything. Two weeks after
bringing Steffi home, I discovered that she was pregnant. Miraculously,
despite her physical condition, she gave birth soon afterward to eleven
healthy and beautiful puppies. Steffi was a wonderful Mom and took
incredible care of her family, even though she was still in poor health
herself. I worked very hard at finding exceptional homes for the puppies
and they have all been placed with wonderful families.
I kept Steffi and two of the puppies. The puppies are now four months
old and are big, beautiful, sweet, and happy. Steffi has been steadily
improving and is now adjusting to family life, although it will be a
long time before she overcomes all of her fears. So, due to this
inspirational story of survival, here's to Steffi, Cooper, Rio, Jasmine,
Jade, Cassie, JoJo, Midnight, Gunner, Luger, Colt, and J.
