Thorpe, the Dog of the Day
Name: Thorpe
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male Breed: German Shepherd mix
Home: USA

Thorpe is the best dog in the World. I got him from a no kill shelter on Saturday, December 22, 2001 as a Christmas gift. I had been volunteering at the shelter since June of 2001. Thorpe was scared of everyone. When I started to volunteer there I asked a staff person why Thorpe would shake so much in the back of his run. They told me that Thorpe and his brother, Trevor, were beaten when they were puppies. They came to the shelter when they were five months old. So, for a while I would go in Thorpe's run and brush him/pet him. After a while he would let me take him on walks. Later on whenever I would come and see Thorpe, he would get really hyper in his run. He was not scared of me at all. On Saturday, December 22, 2001 when I was leaving the shelter for the day, the staff brought Thorpe out into the play pen and said that he was going to some lady's home. Then, they told me to look on his collar. On his collar it said that I am his owner. I was sssssssssooooooooooo happy. When he first came home he was nervous. But now he's ok with everyone he knows. He gets to sleep on my big bed instead of his dog bed, when ever he wants to. He also has a ten-year-old German Shepherd friend named Cujo, four cats, and a pig to play with. Now, he's happy.
