We
just couldn't wait for spring to get here. What makes Tanner special
is that she was saved from a local area farm, where we got her as a
lethargic puppy, full of worms and near death. It took quite a while to
get her to respond to people, but now she is happy and the most gentle
German Shepherd mix I have ever seen.
She love to take her owner Deb (and Deb's disabled husband Bruce) for
long, summer walks - Deb walking and Bruce on his electric scooter.
Tanner is extremely healthy today. She has unlimited energy and loves
her walks in the sun, whenever possible. She can fetch, sit, speak,
shake hands (both of them), stay, and drop over on her back when we
"shoot" her!!!
A favorite game for Tanner to play is tug-of-war on her rope toy. She is
quite adept at this and just when her owner, Deb, seems to have the
upper hand, Bruce tells Tanner to "shake it" and she whips her head back
and forth, with the rope in her mouth, winning the game. She loves
people, little kids especially. She raises her head up whenever she
hears the laughter of children. She also loves group hugs. When either
Bruce or Deb yells out the words "Group Hug!" she runs into the bedroom,
jumps on the bed, and waits for her two owners to lay down beside her to
hug each other.
She loves rides in the family mini-van. If it is just Bruce and her, she
will ride up front sitting on the seat. If it's both Bruce and Deb, she rides
on the space between the two front seats, sitting on the floor but
looking out the front window. If something comes up and she needs to be
in back, she knows the command "off" and "get in back." She is very
much loved and an integral part of the family.
