Tiamo
has always been very special. Her name comes from the Italian Tiamo
which means "I love you." When I first met her, she was six weeks old
and I would watch her and her littler mates scrambling to their mom to
suckle milk then scramble around and nap. She was always the last one to
leave mom and the last one to wake up from naps. Her dad was a golden
retriever and mom was husky/black lab mix. I took her home when she was
eight weeks old. She was just a little fluffball. I was hesitant at first to
get a dog, but I had been through a traumatic experience (my
ex-boyfriend nearly ended my life) that summer and when my friend called
to let me know her sister's dog had puppies, I had to think about it. I
asked when the puppies were born. They were born on the same day of my
traumatic experience. I figured that instead of remembering what
happened to me every year, I will remember my dog's birthday instead.
The anniversary will be a happy one of celebration.
I am deaf and Tiamo is aware of that. She walks ahead of me and if she
gets too far, she stops and waits for me to come up to her. One time I
was rollerblading with friends and Tiamo came along. I was way ahead of
my friends. Tiamo stayed close to my friends. I tried to yell for her to
come close to me, but she stayed close to my friends forcing me to wait
for everyone to catch up. How thoughtful!!! She loves having her photo
taken. One time my father was taking a family photo and we all lined up
outside for the picture. Tiamo came right in front and positioned
herself smack dab in the middle and sat with a big smile on her face! We
didn't even have to call her over! When she was just a puppy and my mom
came to visit me for a weekend, sometime in the middle of the night, my
mom thought I went to the bathroom. When my mom woke up, she saw yellow
liquid in the bathtub! Tiamo had figured since we go to the bathroom
there, she would do so and not wake us up in the middle of the night by
peeing on paper which was right next to my mom's bed in the living room.
She is dignified, too. When we walk down the street and see other dogs
that start barking incessantly, Tiamo just looks away and continues
walking. Totally ignoring these impolite barkers and just minding her
way like a lady! Last but not least, she is on the canine committee for
the American Cancer Society's Dogwalk Against Cancer for the third year in
a row. You go girl, Tiamo!
