Cassie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Cassie
Age: Ten weeks old
Gender: Female Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Home: Southaven, Mississippi, USA

Taking this picture of Cassie was the hardest thing I think I've ever done! She was eight weeks old, and there were three of us trying to get pictures of her that day. I'd push her down in the Laundry Cart and as soon as I'd back away, out of the camera's view, she'd jump out. We took four rolls of film that day. We ended up with a lot of good pictures but this one seems to be everybody's favorite. I didn't think I was ready for a puppy when my husband brought her home but I am grateful he did. We love her to death!

Cassie was the only survivor of a litter of twelve. She is starting to come around more when she is with other dogs. She's more playful now. My husband and I also have a cat, and watching the two of them together is a lot of laughs. Cassie is definitely a "one person" dog. She follows me every where I go. She loves on me and answers to every command I give her. When my husband gives her a command, she completely ignores him. You can tell she's a "mama's girl." (Every one who's been around her would say that).

When we brought her home a month ago, I bought her a bunch of chew toys. The one she likes the most is a stuffed animal that I've had for years. She carries that bear around every where! She even sleeps with it. Although she doesn't mind her daddy very well, I think her favorite thing to do is, play with him. He usually gives up before she does and she always tries to get him to play some more. She is a very smart dog. She is just about housebroken now and she is only ten weeks old. If she is playing and you start talking to her, she'll stop what she's doing and come sit by you to listen. As you talk, she tilts her head back and forth. I think it's the cutest thing. I know it's not a trick but I call it her "head tilt." And as far as being independent or affectionate, the only person who can hold her like a baby is me. Everyone else who picks her up, she screams and cries and fights to get down. I immediately pick her up after the other person puts her down and she can go to sleep in my arms. She's still getting to know us and we are still getting to know her. And she hasn't had that much time to develop her entire personality, but so far, she's a gem. I couldn't imagine my life without her.
