This
is our dog Butch. We got him when he was about four years old from
the Animal Rescue League, where he insisted that I take him for a walk.
His main goal in life is to find out where his next meal is coming from,
and he never misses any. He loves people, but doesn't get along real
well with other dogs. He loves to chase water from the hose, attacking
the water like he thinks he can catch it.
He thinks that anything that squeaks belongs to him. Once, we brought
home a rescued kitten and we had to keep it away from him because he
thought it was a plush toy. (The kitten found a new home!) Our grown
cats (two of them) were not sure about this "bull in a china shop" when he
first came home. We decided to leave our Butch on a leash during his
first night home, just in case. Well, the next morning we looked out
into the living room to find Butch, leash intact, stretched out on the
couch. Butch likes his comfort! Within hours, the cats let Butch know
who was the boss, although when excited he might indulge himself in a
harmless cat chase. Butch has his own special bed now, and sometimes
scores couch time, too.
