About Us
Oscar, the Dog of the Day
Name: Oliver
Age: Five years old
Gender: Male Breed: Miniature Dachshund
Home: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

What makes our Oliver special? Well, where do we begin. As a mini-dachshund, Oliver has the instincts of a hunter. He is independent, has a vicious bark, and is our protector. Sometimes, people have rung our door bell and have quickly left after hearing Oliver "roar." If they only knew he was just ten pounds!

Killer instincts aside, Oliver is the sweetest, most lovable dog anyone could ask for. We provide him with daily belly rubs, kisses (he too provides lots of kisses), hugs, and of course treats. Oliver's favorite snack would have to be any kind of bone because you have to keep those teeth and jaw in perfect shape. Although we try not to give him human food, Oliver will get the occasional piece of carrot, celery, apple slice, raisin, or of course, ground beef. It is very difficult not to spoil Oliver because when he looks at you with those big brown eyes, and puts his paw on your leg ... look out!!! The most pleasurable activity we do with Oliver is sleep. Although he does not sleep in our bed, he certainly will nap with one of us in an evening or a Saturday afternoon. He burrows himself under the blanket and is almost instantly relaxed. This sounds wonderful but it makes it difficult for the humans to get up - the heat alone he generates is amazing. Once in a deep sleep, Oliver tends to grunt and roll on his back, sticking all four limbs in the air. Too cute!

This loving creature has had such an impact in our lives that it is hard to imagine a time when we didn't have him with us. We wouldn't give him up for anything!!! He's our little pooch.
