This
Jake. He's a Bernese Mountain Dog and is the sweetest, most
affectionate animal I've ever met. Although he'll grow to be around 100
pounds, his favorite thing to do is cuddle on the couch with the momma
bear (that's me). He's four and half months old in this picture ... isn't he the
cutest thing you've ever seen?? Everyone who meets him falls in love
instantly.
He is very easy to train. He is just so eager to please. He likes
"shake" the best, but he will "sit pretty" (most people will call that
"beg" but I don't like the term, so I've taught him "sit pretty"
instead). It's very funny to watch because he's still so puppy clumsy
that he has a hard time sitting up on his haunches. He usually ends up
toppling over. He loves to go on walks, and also for rides in the car.
When I pull out his harness he knows that he's going somewhere and will
run to the front door to wait. His very favorite thing (besides
eating:) is going to the park. There are so many different things for
him to see...kids, other dogs, squirrels (which he wants to chase, but
isn't allowed), birds. He especially loves the kids. He's definitely a
people dog and wants to be with the family all the time. He's not huge
on "fetch" or games like that, but he loves going on outdoor adventures.
He has the sweetest personality and disposition that I have ever seen in
a dog, very gentle and loving. I have a handicapped daughter and he
will just sit quietly next to her while she pets him (she actually pulls
at his fur, which is her version of a pet), and he's very patient if she
pulls too hard. He seems to know that she's different from the other
kids. He's a talker and will "talk" to me when I bring him his food or
play in the yard with him. It's not a bark that he does, but this
little woof/yip sound like he is trying to tell me all about his day.
He loves other animals, especially my other dog, Ellie (a Great
Pyrenees). They are great friends.
