Charlie
is a nine-pound bundle of affection and energy. He was named after
HRH The Prince of Wales (whom we spotted in Windsor, England last June);
my husband says they share a certain physical similarity (ears). We
call our canine family member "Charlie."
Charlie is very friendly, a great lap companion on a cold winter's day,
and always curious. If something is going on in our house (washing
machine buzzer sounds, microwave oven beeps, door opens or closes),
Charlie trots to the source to see what is happening. We affectionately
call him "The Inspector."
Although he was the last at puppy school to learn to sit, we know he is
intelligent. He can now sit, stay (briefly), down, dance and shake (his
paw). He excels at the agility course (which will be his next formal
class).
For about ten minutes, three times each day he wants us to play fetch
with him (foam splash balls from the swimming pool are his favorite).
When he retrieves them, he proudly prances back to drop the ball so we
can throw it yet again. At other times, he likes to be included in
whatever we are doing. He doesn't like the vacuum cleaner nor marching
bands (we learned that at the annual homecoming parade).
He was purchased for our daughter's 12th birthday; as she happily
reminds us "He is the best birthday present ever!" She takes excellent
care of him and is a tremendously responsible pet owner. Charlie was
the guest at the 1st Grade "Fuzzy Friends" event at elementary school;
he has a small fan club of children who instantly loved him - and, of
course, he returns all affection!
Charlie has beautiful markings, soft fur and prefers to have his ears
stroked just a certain way. The springtime birds, rabbits and
squirrels that then re-appeared in our yard fascinate him. When he is
tired, he likes to curl up next to one of his humans to sleep.
We chose his breed because Papillons don't bark much, require little
scheduled exercise and grooming, and are supposed to be loyal companion
animals. Charlie is all of that and so much more - he is truly a member
of our family.
