About Us
Nemo, the Dog of the Day
Name: Nemo
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male Breed: Great Dane
Home: Acton, California, USA

For many years I have wanted a Great Dane. But I thought being single (at the time), and living in a modest house I couldn't support this wondrous animal. Since then, I have gotten married and moved to a ranch in Acton Ca. My husband, knowing my dream, gave me a Great Dane of choice. I opted to go to a rescue instead if going to a breeder. We traveled 2-1/2 hours and reached a wonderful Rescue in NORCO Ca. After four hours of seeing great Danes from six months to two years old, I was thinking that this may not be my day.

I had asked one last time if they had any other Danes that were Male and Harlequin, and they replied yes. However, he was four years old, and was returned back to them from a divorced home. They said he seemed very sensitive about the whole ordeal. They brought out this animal and all I could think was he was "Spectacular"!

He is a Giant Dane. A regular Dane measures 37" to the hip, this glorious animal was 39." He had stunning blue eyes and he was magnificent. The former owners also had his voice box removed. So when he barks, its faint attempt at making noise. I couldn't imagine why someone would alter this magnificent creature but we knew we would not let it continue. We knew on the spot, he was meant to come home with us.

We named him NEMO because we had been trying to "find him" for a very long time. We have two other dogs and three goats. They all love and respect him. Nemo weighs 180lbs, eat's small meals five times a day, loves to bark at Horses, jack rabbits and loves to watch Animal Planet while laying on his twin sized bed in the air conditioning. Pretty standard stuff, any Dane owner will tell you. If I would have known what big babies they were- I would not have waited so long! They prefer being indoors, sleeping on couches and TV's, instead of big yards! We knew in our hearts, that Nemo had found his way home. We can only hope he feels the same and that we gave Nemo the life he deserves because he is the light in our life.
