Here
is Merle Watson-Haggard. He is a Catahoula Leopard Dog we got from
the Alachua County Animal Shelter in Gainesville Florida. His unique
coloration and beautiful green eyes captivated us from the moment we saw
him. He got his name from his coloration (red merle) and two of his
Mommy's favorite musicians.
Catahoulas are working dogs who love to herd. Merle will herd anything
he can, including the armadillos in the garden. He doesn't want to
catch them, much to our dismay, but he loves to get them rounded up! He
has an fenced acre of Florida wilds to run in, but doesn't let a 4-foot
fence stop him ... he is often found on the outside of the gate
looking back in! Not even a kennel can keep him confined! We found
him waiting at the front door one of the first nights we had him - the
kennel was still locked, but he found a way out!
Merle rarely barks, but when he does, you know it! He is kind and
loving, and the light of our lives!
