Why
is he special? Hard to say. He is just like the thousands of other
wonderful dogs that have so much love and enjoyment to offer. I suppose
he is special because he is ours.
This is Riley, rounding a corner at full tilt. Rarely at rest, he is
always looking for action, especially right around bedtime. His
favorite toys are squeaky plush things that he loves to show off,
squeaking them vigorously under our noses, ensuring that we have
properly appreciated the wonderfulness of the toy, that he has it and we
don't. Wouldn't we like to have it? No, we can't have it, but if we did
have it, we should throw it so that he might chase it.
Riley had been picked up by the municipal animal control, wandering the
streets of Muskegon. We don't know for how long. He was snatched from
euthanasia by the local rescue group. We found him on their web site.
In the photo, Riley seemed a reincarnation of our much loved Murphy, a
Border Terrier we had recently lost. When we met him, it was apparent
that Riley was very much his own dog. While there does seem to be some
Border Terrier in him, we have decided that he is also mixed with Hyena,
Dingo, and Kangaroo. He was friendly, but ill-mannered. Six months and
many dog classes later, he is a bit more civilized.
He is also know as Rambunctious Riley, Rascal Riley, Wily Riley, Wild
Riley, Get Down Riley, Let Go Riley, Leave the Cat Alone Riley and
That's MY Bed Riley.
Despite his rough edges, we love him to pieces, like the recalcitrant,
yet adored child that makes you nuts. We believe he and we were both
fortunate to have found each other.
