Dudley
is a rescue dog (from Battersea Dogs Home). He was bought as a
christmas present for a family who didn't have the time or inclination
to look after him, so he spent his puppyhood alone most of the day and
when he wasn't alone he was being told off for chewing furniture and
pooing on the floor etc. (which I would do if I was alone all day - well
maybe not the pooing on the floor).
We almost didn't find Dudley as we were going to go to Battersea after
the Rugby World Cup final in 2003, but since England won (hooray) we
delayed the trip for a week and he arrived in Battersea the day after
the final - so it was destiny. When we got him he was called Goofy but
this was rapidly changed to Dudley. He didn't have the worst name there
as there was one dog called Cat.
We went to the Battersea Dogs Home reunion party last summer where there
were thousands of dogs and by an amazing coincidence we bumped into his
old dog sitter who told us his history and confirmed that he is a
pedigree. I have attached a photo of their meeting.
Since we have had him Dudley has been non-stop fun. He is incredibly
energetic - probably making up for lost time still. The picture I have
sent you is from Camber Sands where we spend about an hour a day if
possible. He loves charging around the beach and honing his football
skills. He can play football on his own for ages by kicking the ball
away then chasing after it again.
He is amazingly good natured. I don't think I've ever heard him growl.
Dudley loves everybody and has converted several lifelong dog-haters to
his side.
Most of all he is a member of the family.
