This
is Mookie, who adopted me last September. She'd been dumped on the
college campus where I work, and she made her way to my office, where we're
all pet lovers. She won my heart, and after some serious consideration, I
took her home. Though I thought for a while I might have made a mistake
(I'm middle-aged and she's a doggie dynamo), it became clear early on that
Mookie is a very special girl: she's a terrific companion and a cheerful,
devoted friend.
Mook's a boxer/pit bull mix, so she has energy to burn. She weighs a trim,
compact 45 pounds. When she gets excited, she leaps three or four feet into
the air and twists around like a championship diver. I've seen her turn
complete somersaults when she's three feet off the ground. I trust she'll
settle down a bit as time goes by (she's still just a big pup - only about
a year old), but she owns my heart no matter what. She's sweet, funny and
loving (and, despite her somewhat frightening bursts of enthusiasm, she's
calm and gentle most of the time); I'm also captivated by her worried
eyebrows and her beautiful, expressive face. She's just a lovely dog.
