Nitro
turned four years old on January 5th of 2005. My name is Heidi, and I
am Nitro's human. Nitro is a very unique dog. Actually, he is more of a
"furry person". Nitro will be four years old this year and he has had a
bit of a rough time. He is a Black and Tan Pomeranian. When he was a
year old we were going to show him but he developed a severely luxated
patella. This is when the kneecap pops out of joint. It is because the
groove to hold the kneecap is too shallow and the ligaments are too
loose, it is hereditary. He had surgery and was cooped up for a month,
but now he walks, plays and runs with only a small limp.
We went into obedience but his trachea started to collapse, this happens
frequently when you put pressure on some small dogs throats with a
collar. It sounds like they are doing a backwards sneeze or choking.
There is not a good cure for it, so Nitro became a Therapy dog with
Therapy Dogs International. He now goes to hospitals, senior homes,
schools and many other places where people need to cuddle a friend. He
loves to be a Therapy dog! I think this is what he was truly meant to do.
We moved to the mountains and Nitro's favorite thing to do is play in
the snow and chase squirrels and bark at Blue Jays that dare to come
into his yard. He is a smart, funny dog who knows more than I ever will.
He is my very best friend and I hope that he will sleep on my bed and
travel by my side for a very long time.
