My
family got Bean when I was a freshman in high
school. We already had two other dogs in the house and my parents had
gone to the pet store to buy a new leash for one of our other dogs and
came home with Bean. Apparently she had been letting the other puppies
in the bin with her drag her around by her tail and having that same
happy-goofy look on her face as she does in her picture. And it was the
same facial expression she wore when my parents brought her home. That
was when I knew it was the beginning of a long and close, goofy
friendship with myself and one silly spotted puppy.
Bean is shy dog by nature and get really nervous around strangers, but
she is devoutly devoted to those who love her best. Bean and I would
spend hours just hanging out on my couch watching TV or she would try
and sit in my lap when I was trying to type on my laptop and she felt
that I didn't pay enough attention to her. When my parents separated
during my senior year of high school, Bean was the one thing I came home for.
Bean is a loveable dog who is goofy by nature, especially around those
she knows best. She likes to believe she is lap dog even though she is
well over 60 pounds at this point. She doesn't bark too much, you can
usually tell her moods by the type of sigh she emits. She likes hugs a
lot, prefers to sleep on your kneecaps, and firmly believes that the
fireplace is the television despite my trying to explain to her that
she doesn't need to watch the flames of the fire for hours on end. She
loves it when you try to teach her new tricks, but unfortunately she
gets so excited she forgets what she is supposed to do. Thus, we have
decided to stick with our favorite activities of watching crime dramas
on prime-time television and taking naps whenever I come home from college.
I wish everyone could have a dog like Bean that made them feel as loved
as I do when I am around my spotted-jelly-Bean. I miss her while I am
away at school, but communicate regularly by talking to her on the
speaker phone when I call home. Bean has also developed the talent of
sending me cards in the mail, though she still signs her name with a
backwards B (or perhaps it really is my mother who sends the cards on
Bean's behalf to my dorm).
