Erin
is a very special dog. He is affectionate and fun. He loves to
play. He invents games to play by himself. It is incredible to watch. He
starts by looking at his reflection in the car. He slowly and gently
approaches his reflection as if he were hunting. He will get very close
to the car with his nose and then takes off as if to say, "I got my
prize". He loves to play that game.
He also enjoys hiding items in flower pots. Last Spring we planted
flowers in large pots to be placed around the house. One day I noticed
Erin digging with all his might and attention in one of the pots. I
watched with interest because I knew he must be looking for something.
Sure enough, he pulled something out from the bottom of the pot. I could
not imagine what it was. On closer inspection, it was a piece of pizza
given to him by one of my sons that he decided to save for a rainy day.
He is a riot.
A few months ago, my wonderful mother-in-law passed away after being
quite ill for a few months. Erin would visit her everyday. Erin knew her
when she was well. She always fed him and rubbed him He knew when she
became ill. When she was bedridden, Erin would jump on her bed, put his
head on her legs and just stay with her for hours. He would not leave
her side until it was time to go home. Whenever Erin was at my
mother-in-law's bedside, she seemed to get better and brighten up. When
she died, Erin looked for her all over the house, especially in her
bedroom. He would not get on the bed. I really think he missed her too
much. To this day, he will not get on her bed.
Erin is such a joy. He makes me laugh. He understands everything I do
and say. There is not a better dog in the world.
