About Us
Willie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Willie
Age: Eleven years old
Gender: Male Breed: Shepherd mix
Home: Longwood, Florida, USA

We got Willie at a shelter in Seminole county. The shelter had burned down so they were using outdoor makeshift cages. He was dirty and covered in fleas, but when we saw that Willie was the one volunteer kids who worked there were playing with, we knew he was special. We think he's Shepherd and Sheltie, but aren't sure.

Willie is very smart. He loves to play, and responds to all kinds of verbal commands. We knows all too well "walk," "ride" and "treat" (especially if whispered). Willie is my first dog, and has been a faithful companion, amazingly tuned to emotions. He always knows just the right time for a nuzzle or "kiss." He likes to walk to you on his hind legs and reach out his front legs for a nice upright hug. This was a little challenging when he was young and would urinate as he came toward you (hosing us down).

Willie has a "sister" named "Shadow" (black lab mix) we got from a shelter on a farm a week after Willie, and the two are very close. It is amazing to see how sophisticated they coordinate the chase of a squirrel or strange cat. Willie is very protective of his family, and never lets other dogs at the dog park to get near his mommy and human "little sister."

Willie has seen many changes, especially our two kids. He has adjusted well to change, and is still master of the back yard. Willie is a little slower now, has some cataracts and likes his naps a little longer. He is my best pal and he will always be my first and best dog ever.

We will always love you Willie.
