Sasha
is what is called either an American Staffordshire Terrier or an
American Pit Bull Terrier. It depends on whether you ask the American
Kennel Club or United Kennel Club, but in any case, she lives in Ann
Arbor, Michigan.
Sasha has done a lot of work as a good will ambassador for pitties. She
loves to jog and hike with me. I take her to all the public parks in
town where she meets and greets all sorts of folks and animals. She has
helped educate people that not all fighting breeds are bad. To help
with this effort in the winter, Sasha has to wear outwear, as she has no
under coat and it does get cold in Michigan! When people see Sasha in
her coat, they are not frightened, I guess no one is really frightened
of a dog in a sweater. By wearing these sweaters, people approach her
and then learn about how nice a pit bull can be. They also learn about
proper care of these dogs, who do not have much fur.
Sasha's most favorite activity is hunting for deer in the wood and
flushing them out. She is a very good scent dog and is happiest running
through the trees. I once witnessed Sasha chasing down a coyote. Boy,
she had that coyote on the run. Once when Sasha was chasing down a big
buck, she got under the fence and was hit by a car. It was very scary,
but she pulled through just fine.
Sometimes Sasha hides - she heard there might be a ferocious pit bull
around and took to hiding under the covers to be safe. She does not
know that she IS the Pit Bull. We have told everyone that she is toy
poodle, and she believes it. Sasha decided it was nice and warm under
covers and now just loves being snuggled in.
Sasha's second favorite thing to do is eat. She claims she is a very good
eater and can help eat anything. With her ultra sensitive nose, we
believe she can smell down a fallen crumb. Sasha has a doggie sister, a
Border Collie named Panda, and they are best of friends.
We first met Sasha when she was eight weeks old and we agreed to puppy sit
for one or two nights. Then the person never came to collect her and
two and a half years later we still have her. We are so happy she is
with us. She is happy too and shows it with her kisses. She is such a
snuggly loving little dog.
Maybe one day you will meet her out in the woods sniffing around!
