This
is my pooch Uma. She was rescued from a very bad situation when she
was seven months old, and came to live with me just before she turned one.
Uma was abused as a puppy. When she was rescued her knee was shattered,
and she was a muddy mess. The kind people that rescued her took her to
the vet to fix her leg and clean her up. They knew how much I wanted a
pet and even though Uma was afraid of almost everyone and everything,
she and I got along wonderfully. The great people that rescued her, gave
her to me when she was eleven months old. Over the last several years Uma
has come a long way from the very frightened puppy she was, and has
become a big, sweet, dog that is just a scaredy cat. Because of her
injury and her age, she can't do any tricks. She loves finding treats
hidden in kongs, boxes, sacks... what ever she can tear apart. She loves
other dogs, but is afraid of most people she doesn't know. She also
loves going to the local off-leash dog park to play with her four legged
friends.
The only "trick" she knows is to go potty when I tell her to "get busy".
She is extremely affectionate to me and a few close friends. She has her
own blanket and pillow on my king size bed, and happily wakes me up
every morning. That is when she is most playful. The minute she thinks I
am awake, her tail thumps against the bed and she usually starts nudging
me to acknowledge her. This is the same routine every morning... it
sometimes includes a game of hide and seek. I will cover my head with
the covers and she stands over me and uses her nose to pull the covers
away from my face. She loves to play this game every morning.
She is the sweetest dog I've ever had. She has a heart of gold.
