This
is our little "ray of Sunshine" and she has brought nothing but
happiness to our family since we got her at the age of eight weeks. At the
age of five she weighs around eight to nine pounds. Her mother was a purebred
Maltese and her father was a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. She certainly
has the qualities of both breeds. She is a good little watchdog like
the Yorkie and barks when someone strange comes to our house, but
her disposition is mostly Maltese, (not a terrier) as she is very cuddly
and affectionate. She has the Yorkie ears, but her hair is soft and
fine, like the Maltese. It mats very easily and we have to get her a
puppy cut about every two to three months.
Her favorite treats are vegetables and fruits. She loves raw carrots
and potatoes, red peppers and apples.
Sunshine is very special because she adores our son who has Cerebral
Palsy. He has poor gross and fine motor skills. She recognizes his
special needs, and is so protective and gentle when it comes to him.
She always moves out of his way because he has poor balance when he
walks and she follows him until he gets settled in a chair in the
family room or in bed at night. My husband and I, however ,have to step
over her. When our son picks her up and pets her, she gives him tons of
kisses. She loves to be carried around in your arms for as long as you
can do it.
This little girl loves her "cat-size tennis ball". She is never without
it in her mouth. She could play ball 24 hours a day. She twirls around
in circles with the ball in her mouth winding up and then throws it
right to the person she's playing with. We throw it for her and she
runs and retrieves it, brings it back and starts the cycle again.
Everyone that visits gets such a laugh out of her and her crazy
antics.
I would certainly get another one, but next time instead of buying from
a breeder, I would contact my friend who runs a small-dog rescue. I
have learned so much since we've had Sunshine, about all the puppymill
dogs needing homes, as well as there being so many beautiful dogs in
rescue. I'm sure we could find exactly what we were looking for and
give one of these little creatures a second chance in life to be loved
and only give love in return.
