Jake
should be honored because he gives us dog cart rides, helps us
raise money for our school's music booster club and carts in parades. He
loves to pull the cart and does anything we ask him to do. He ignores
all other dogs, noise and food.
Jake is the kind of dog who thinks that everyone who comes to our house
is there to see him. He loves people and other dogs. He is the official
house greeter. Because some Rottweilers give the breed a bad reputation,
some people are afraid at first. But then Jake falls on the floor, rolls
on his back with his feet in the air. Then all thoughts of him ever
being a mean dog goes right out the window. He's a great ambassador for
the breed. We sometimes board other dogs including a teacup Maltese.
Jake is usually the one being chased by the little white puffball. At
100 pounds, he's a big part of our family and is the first one there when
anyone is hurt or upset.
We never trained him to be an assistance dog, but one day I fell in the
road in lose sand and could not get back up. Jake somehow knew to stand
over my leg that was pinned under me. He arched his back and offered it
to me to brace myself to stand again. We were on a blind curve and Jake
helped me get up and out of possible oncoming traffic.
