This
is Daphne, our English Mastiff. Our pets bless our homes with many
wonderful attributes. But there is something most of them have in
common: unconditional love. As most of us find with our pets, their
unconditional love is what elevates them to more of a family member than
"just a pet."
In Daphne's case, this is evident every time I am awoken in the night by
her deep, powerful bark as she protects her family from strange sounds
outside, every time Daphne licks the salt off of my legs after a bike
ride, or even when she is looking for someone to snuggle with during
movies. Unconditional love allows her to look past our socially dictated
shortcomings as human beings and settle for what is truly important - a
nice, long scratch under the chin. Life is good.
