We
rescued Harvey about two years ago when he was about ten weeks old -
he'd been found wandering happily through downtown LA. He was already
housebroken, and has never chewed anything (besides a couple of pairs of
sunglasses and a few bras!) but quickly dug our nice lawn into a re
creation of the D-Day landings (although he stopped digging a while
back, thankfully). He's a real affectionate (even sappy) people dog - he
can't be in another room when he knows we're somewhere else, and he has
to sleep on the bed at night or curl up on the couch between us. He
loves to play tug 'o' war and fetch for hours when he's not engaged in
his other pastimes of sleeping, chewing nylabones, and chasing birds.
Harvey's lifelong ambition is to one day catch a squirrel, which really
seem to bother him. He also loves driving (as a passenger obviously!),
and barks angrily when I drive too fast (seriously!), and he's recently
taken up swimming which he loves. Obviously because of his breed mix I
am always aware of his reaction to other dogs and people, but he has
never shown any aggression to anybody, and just wants to play when he
meets another dog - very roughly with some, and gentle with smaller dogs
and kids. He does, however, give us a little warning when anybody
approaches the house - but unless an intruder was allergic to dogs, they
wouldn't be in much danger! He's very obedient - my favorite trick is to
place a treat on the ground in front of him and say "wait". I can then
leave the room and come back a few minutes later and say "ok", and only
then will he eat the treat. He is also a great jogging companion,
although he's taking a few months off for a knee injury (hence the
swimming lessons).
