Maxx
is a rescue dog, and while we are not positive he is a Ridgeback,
he certainly has the majestic look of the breed. He does not have a
ridge, but we have been told there are ridge-less Ridgebacks. He
certainly has the characteristics of the breed, very stubborn, intense
in his play, the ability to take up the whole bed and to sleep all day.
He hates all other dogs except for his housemate, another rescue dog
named Puka. Around people, he is unbelievably sweet. He will sit in
front of you and look up at you with his big amber eyes until you can't
help yourself and have to hug and pet him.
To see him run at full speed is amazing. He is like a heat-seeking
missile on unsuspecting dogs at the dog park. Needless to say, we are
usually asked to leave! Maxx loves going for walks. He doesn't just
smell a bush like my other dog, he digs his head all the way in. I
assume he is looking for lions as Ridgebacks are supposed to be lion
chasers. Of course, Maxx is afraid of the vacuum cleaner. My favorite
thing is when I can get Maxx to "sing." It is truly a horrific sound,
but we sing together for a few minutes every day, until the neighbors
complain.
It is hard to put into words how much Maxx means to me and my partner.
We love him very much and cannot imagine our house without him around.
