Gertie's
story is one that proves how much love can do.
When we adopted Gertie she was a mess of a dog. She had been found in
the middle of winter tied to a fence with another Chihuahua (possibly
her mother) who had frozen to death. She spent a year or so being
fostered and was adopted out several times. Each time Gertie was
returned to her foster home because she was a handful.
It's been two years since we brought Gertie home and she has gone from
growling and snapping at people anytime she was unsure of the situation
to being a funny little clown.
Every morning we let her into the bedroom with us and she romps and
plays in the bed and gets tummy rubs. When we bring her home from a
walk, she jumps up on the sofa and runs back and forth until she manages
to work her sweater off. And she likes nothing more than to cuddle and
sit on a lap. This morning we actually found Gertie and our other dog (a
whippet and pointer mix) "spooning". We feel very lucky that we have her
and we're so proud of how far she's come.
