Loki
healed my heart. We had to put our eleven-year-old dachshund to
sleep after a long battle with cancer. In one year, I had lost my
father, nephew and then my baby. It was one of the most difficult years
I've ever had. He picked me out at a pet store. My daughter thought we
needed another dog to help our dog at home deal with the loss of her
friend. She wanted to pay for the dog since she had a summer job and had
some money in the bank. I told her to go ask her father. I was not going
to "replace" our Bunny, I said that I didn't want to even consider
getting another dog for at least a year. I knew her father would say
"no".
When she returned with her Daddy, I looked down and asked this cute
little ball of white fur if he wanted to go home with us. He got so
excited, started kissing my face and I started to cry. My husband took
one look and knew he was not going to fight that one. He rolled his eyes
and said that he didn't care. I didn't realize that a new puppy was
exactly what I needed to fill that big hole in my heart. I loved him
that single second that he gave me those sloppy puppy kisses and he has
really been a great addition to our family ever since that day.
