This
is Pete. He is such a good dog. He is about seven years old now,
but he still runs and hikes and chases birds. He is truly a bundle of
love at home snuggling and licking whenever he's allowed. He is so
spotty, too! The children he passes on the street while being walked
always exclaim, "a Dalmatian!!" when they see him. And adults invariably
comment on his big splotchy spots. He's just a sweetie and we love him
very much.
Pete is extremely affectionate. He demands to be thoroughly petted every
morning, until there is a pile of hair as tall as mountain for us to
clean up. He can sit and raise a paw for a hand shake on command. His
favorite game is chase, where he grabs a toy, like a kong or a tennis
ball, and runs around the dining room table. We have to chase him until
we are too tired to continue. He will go for hours at chase. Also, he
enjoys chasing Henry, his kitty brother. Pete is somewhat of a slow
learner, but he always learns eventually. For example, when we installed
the doggy door, it took him two weeks to figure out how to go in and
out. We finally resorted to placing a raw steak on the other side of the
door. He went through, but was rewarded with a doggy treat, rather than
the steak. We were so happy when he accomplished the doggy door, because
now he has full access to the back yard. Often we find him stretched out
in the yard baking in the sun. It's very cute.
We love bringing Pete with us to the beach and to the mountains. On the
mountain trails, he corrals us the whole time. He'll run back and forth
between the group lagging behind and the group forging ahead, making
sure we're all still doing ok. Even at the mature age of seven, Pete is full
of energy and optimism.
