About Us
Katie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Katie
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female Breed: Border Collie
Home: Escondido, California, USA

We purchased Katie as a companion for our fifteen-year-old border collie Meggie. Meggie's best friend of thirteen years had just passed away and she kept searching for her - so we needed a new companion right away. Katie, or Katie Bug as I often call her, loved Meggie immediately and wanted to be with her all the time. Katie also was in need of a playmate, so our cat Paws became her play companion. They played all the time and it kept Katie occupied. Unfortunately, as Katie grew older Paws couldn't keep up with her constant demands to play, and a high-energy puppy will run you ragged trying to keep them entertained. We found a best friend for Katie on a puppy web site, and it was the best thing we could have ever done. Now Katie and Molly Lou spend time with Meggie, but also keep each other entertained.

Katie likes to help my husband bring our cats in at night. The young ones usually hide in obscure places hoping Dad won't find them. We say "Katie, find the kitties!" This is the best part of the evening for Katie. She checks all the bushes and then does her border collie herding. The cats have finally learned to just lie down and let Dad pick them up, because Katie Kate won't give up. There was one evening when Katie even found one of the cats on the roof! She kept looking up and running back and forth. We couldn't figure out what was going on until we shone the flashlight on the roof and there was the cat!

We would like to give Katie a chance to try sheep herding because we think she would love it. Katie is a challenge all the time. One of the things she likes to do is open cupboards and help herself to treats. Sometimes she will get one for Molly Lou as well. We have had to put childproof locks on some of the doors! We never know from day to day what Katie will come up with next. We are looking forward to many wonderful years with our smart little girl.
