In
my home, it's always "Summer time," thanks to my little shih tzu mix.
Summer has been with me for a year now, and is a wonderful little dog.
My daughter and I found her at the Denver Humane Society, and as soon as
she pushed herself up to the gate, I knew she was mine. She was
allegedly a biter, so they wouldn't let me take her right away. However,
they called a week later and asked if I would foster her. It took no
time for me to realize that, even with her temper, she was definitely my
dog.
If the biting story is true, I believe dogs do that when they are
mistreated and abused. She was dirty, matted and had horrible
"dandruff." The first thing I did was take her to my groomer for a
bath, then to the vet for a rabies shot and some advice on the dry skin.
As Summer became more and more comfortable, her temper subsided (for the
most part) and she has turned out to be a wonderful little companion.
Now she's the boss, and that's fine with me. Her name probably should
have been Shadow because she follows me everywhere. She's a little
expensive, however - she goes through toys like crazy, and she looks
great in doggie clothes - who would have thought I would be buying
clothes for a pet? Her signature color is pink, and as you can tell, it
suits her just fine. I'm very lucky to have found this little bundle of
fur and joy.
