This
is Valcom. He is a wonderful addition to my family of myself and
two kittens, Kira and Kendra. He loves to play catch, play with little
children and adores other dogs. He is called the kissing bandit and has
more than one girlfriend, he is the regular "Ladies Man". More than
just a pet of the day, to me he is the most wonderful dog ever!!!
I adopted him from an organization in Broward County FL in Oct. '06.
This organization fosters pet taken from kill shelters and does a very
thorough job in placing them within very caring homes. He was quite
timid at first, afraid of many things due to having been kept in a
kennel for the first couple of months of his life. He was the smallest
of five puppies, at our first meeting I drove to meet him and two of his
brothers. I had always wanted a Rhodesian Ridgeback after reading about
the breed and their origins, so needless to say I was rather excited to
meet him.
The woman let him and his brothers out of the kennel and immediately
they began to run around in excitement. Val was the first of the three
to come to me, as he looked up with his big brown eyes...I was hooked. I
enrolled him in a puppy training course provided by the local Humane
Society within a couple of weeks. The trainer would always lead Val
through the exercises as an example for the rest of the class. The
trainer constantly complimented him on his intelligence and domineer.
Needless to say he passed with flying colors!! Learning to sit, lay
down, stay and shake. I can also walk him off the leash, his only
distraction is when coming across other dogs, he is always up for play
time and loves to lick the months of larger female dogs. Thus his
nickname of "The Ladies Man." I have two nine-month-old female kitty's and
they all get along perfectly, he likes to play fetch with them and likes
to drink from his bowl with them. I like to think he considers them his
family.
I am a bartender and one Sunday I brought him in while I worked the AFC
and NFC championships. He was a bit overwhelmed with the crowd at first
but gradually warmed up and won over the entire crowd with his gentleness
and calmness. Everyone always comments on how "Good of a dog he is" for
being a puppy of eight months.
