Here
is my girl, her name is Jessi. Here is how I got her:
It all began with one familiar sound. A dog barking out to all the world
that someone had arrived in his territory. Little did I know that sound
was closely linked to destiny! Bandit, an Australian shepherd who
belonged to my aunt, raced down the driveway to meet us, along with my
cousin's fiance's golden retriever, Morgan. She was very skinny, and
when I got out of the car and walked around the corner, I knew why!
Puppies! Seven two month old puppies yipped at us from their pen. They
were so cute! I reluctantly went on to the door, Still thinking about
the puppies. When I came out twenty minutes later, the first thing I did
was pick one up and bring it inside. There my family and I cuddled with
it. My cousin Laurel had brought one in too. But I still was thinking
about the other pups. One had just stepped back so the others wouldn't
crush her, and looked at me with her sweet little eyes.
I asked Kiffin, my cousin, who was at that point engaged to Jon,
Morgan's owner, which one she liked the best. She went out to show me
and picked up the very one that had sweetly stepped back, and handed it
to me. She told me that it's temporary name was Dakota. Little Dakota
was cold, so I brought her inside. From that time on, we were
inseparable. I would go up and down stairs and call her, and she would
clumsily tumble down (or stumble up) after me. Then I would sit down in
a chair and cuddle her.
But there was sorrow also. My aunt, Vicky, had died of cancer. I
remember how Bandit used to follow her around everywhere she went. We
were at my Uncle's house for her funeral the next day. Morning dawned,
pale and grey. We left the Watson's, (we had spent the night there) and
left for the service. It was very sad. We all missed Aunt Vicky.
When night came, we all met back at Uncle Craig's house. Though we all
were still sad about Aunt Vicky, the mood had lightened. Soon after we
arrived, I went out to get little Dakota again, brought her inside, and
we played, and cuddled. I really wanted to keep her, but I decided to
wait until the time was right to ask. I did, however, place her in dad's
lap and let him cuddle her. I was sure mom would stand with me, but I
was worried about dad. He probably wouldn't want another dog around. I
wasn't sure about Chase. That night, we went back to the Watsons and I
played with their dogs, Samson, Molly, and Maximus (Max or Maxie for
short). And so the days passed, staying at the Watsons and visiting
Uncle Craig's, and while I was at Uncle Craig's, playing with Dakota.
All the while I was trying to think of a good name for her: Bonnie,
Dakota, Oreo, etc. I continued to place her in my dad's lap every night,
where she would snuggle up to him (and lick his hands and face). Later
on, I told my family I wanted to keep little Dakota. (big Dakota would
be our neighbor's dog). We talked a while, but mom and dad decided to
wait before making their decision. The next day, my Uncle Craig took
Laurel and me horseback riding. I rode a black horse named Beauty. He
sure was fast! It was fun.
That evening, mom and dad told me that I could keep Dakota! I was
overjoyed! I wasn't too sure that Dakota was the right name for her, so
I kept on looking. That night, I stumbled upon it. Jessie! But I was
still thinking that Jessie was too common a name. But I got around that.
Jessi! Leave out the E and it was even cuter! (And more original).
We were supposed to leave the next day, but we stayed to get puppy
supplies. I still couldn't believe it. A puppy of my own! I was so
exited! That night, we went camping. Uncle Craig had a old camper and my
dad and I spent the night in it (with Jessi, of course.) The next day,
we left Colorado. And so that is how I got Jessi, and just the beginning
of my lifetime of adventures with her.
She is very sweet and will do HI-YO JESSI for us just like the Lone
Ranger's Silver in the old movies!!! She will also sit, lie down, roll
over, shake and all that usual dog stuff.
