Hi!
Nice to meet you! My proper name is Coates, but you can call me "Mr.
Coatie" like my family does! I am one spoiled puppy, but I return all
the love with sloppy kisses and body wiggles. Instead of wagging my tail
when I'm happy, I wag my whole body! I was born in Idaho and flew on a
plane to sunny Florida when I was just six weeks old. My mom and dad fell
in love with my wrinkles, long velvet ears, and brown nose. When they
found out I had the same birthday as my mommy's grandfather who had just
passed away, they knew that adding me to the family was meant to be!
I am a super smart puppy and love my life. Well, I could do without the
hairdryer and vacuum cleaner, but other than that I'm a very happy boy!
I respond to lots of words Mom says to me. Bird means look up in the sky
for one, lizard means I get to sneak up on one, treat means sit up nice
and tall, tennis ball means go find it in the yard, and outside means go
to the back door! When Daddy talks to me, he means business because it's
training time. He says "sit, stay, mark", then he throws the dummy and I
wait until "back", which is the magic word that means go!
My favorite word is beach, because that means I get to chase seagulls,
dig for crabs, and practice retrieving in the waves with my daddy. I
am a very good listener and by far the fastest dog on the beach. Not
long ago I went on my first real quail hunt! My instincts kicked in and
I knew exactly what to do. Daddy was very impressed with me. Boy was I
tired when I got home! I used to steal the covers off Mom and Dad's bed
in the middle of the night, but now they gave me my own blanket, so I
feel very safe and cozy at night! Besides the beach, my other favorite
place is the mountains of North Carolina where I get to hike, play in
the snow (see picture), and cut down a Christmas tree with Mom and Dad!
Because I have so much energy and love to play, Mom and Dad got me a
special present for Christmas: a baby black lab sister named Hollin!
She's the best playmate ever, and we are inseparable. I have taught her
lots of tricks, including how to sit and raise one paw when Mom opens
the treat jar. She loves to swim in the ocean with me (see picture) and
I can't wait to go hunting with her one day when she gets big like me.
My mommy and daddy wanted to nominate me for the Dog of the Day because
they think I am a one-of-a-kind Vizsla that everyone needs to meet!
