These
poppies are beautiful in New Mexico in April, almost as beautiful
as our Cassi! Cassi is special in that she is a one people person. She
does not recognize herself as being of the canine species and is
happiest when she is snuggled next to me, either in bed or on the sofa
watching Animal Planet. She is excellent company, better than human
company. She talks to me when I get home and tells me how much she has
missed me and why didn't I take her with me. She does the standard
commands, such as sit and stay, but I never tried to make a trick dog
out of her, it seemed beneath her somehow, since she is so human
oriented in nature. Her favorite game used to be to chase tennis balls,
and her dog pal Cory would chase her, grab her tail and make a train
bringing the ball back to me. She and I adopted Cory when she was five
years old. She is friendly but reserved towards other people and dogs
alike except for Cory and me.
Cassi came into my life from the Dona Ana County NM Humane Society
Shelter, and was brought up by me and two black cats from the Tarrant
County TX Animal Shelter. She is eleven now, and I can't imagine my world
without her.
