Our
dog Lazlo is two years old now, but was about one year old when the
photo was taken. With so many negative stories in the news about pit
bulls and people's irrational fears about them, we try to show people
that pit bulls can be loving, loyal, and hilarious dogs. He loves to
sleep under the covers and his favorite game is catching tennis balls.
Lazlo is a character. He can look intimidating if you don't know him,
but he is really a big galoot. He likes to lick every person he meets,
even if that person isn't so sure they want to meet Lazlo. He will run
up to complete strangers, which I imagine is scary at first; but as soon
as he starts licking them they realize he's just a friendly pup. In
fact, licking is his way of showing affection and he does it often. If
he gets in trouble, he immediately starts licking us. He is such a
sweetheart and although he is rambuncious and high-energy, he is so
loving. He loves to engage other dogs, even small dogs, in playing and
despite his size and strength he has never hurt another dog. He is
super protective and since we've had him since he was five weeks old, if
one of us (my husband or myself) goes somewhere, he wants to know where.
The tricks we have taught him are to sit, lay down, shake, and give
kisses. He loves tug-of-war, but we don't play that with him much
because it seems to promote aggressive behavior. His favorite game of
late is catching tennis balls. We have a Chuck-It ball thrower and we
bounce balls on the ground so he can jump up in the air and catch them.
He could do that all day long. If one of us humans is tired of playing
and call him to go inside and he's not done, he will just lay down, like
"I'm not done."
