Our
dog, Sammy Bear could not be a more perfect pet for us. We adopted
him from the Humane Society when he was 21 months old. I was doing
volunteer work for the Humane Society and I saw Sammy in the dog pound
waiting to be adopted. My husband and I were not looking for a dog at
the time. Everyone was talking about Sammy. He was so beautiful and
such a good dog. Everyone at the shelter wanted to adopt him but for
one reason or another, couldn't. All of my friends kept telling me to
go visit with him and I finally gave in. Sammy was very shy and a
little frightened being at the shelter and not knowing what was going to
happen to him. After visiting him several times and having my husband
visit him also, we decided Sammy's place was with us. I couldn't
imagine him going home with anyone else.
Because of the way Sammy acted in certain situations, we believe he may
have been abused by his previous owner. Just thinking this could be
true, breaks my heart. He is the sweetest, most lovable and loving
dog on the planet.
Sammy Bear seems to be the reincarnation of our two former dogs, a
Border Collie, Timker who was a wonderful dog who lived for over seventeen
years and Kaiser, a German Shepherd who lived for over twelve years. He
seems to have the best of both of those dogs and we have often referred
to him as "our perfect pet". He is big and furry (hence the middle
name, Bear). He loves children, other dogs, cats, bunnies. He just
loves everyone. We call him our "Gentle Giant". Considering that we
were not looking for a dog at the time we adopted him, he has turned out
to be "just what we weren't looking for". He has never jumped up on
people, destroyed the house or it's contents, barked excessively or
given us any reason to ever regret adopting him. He will, however,
steal food if it is within his reach. We're working on that one!
Sammy lives with my husband and I and our three felines, Cydni 20,
Olivia 18 and Tux 4. We also have our daughter's dog, Honey-Brown and
her cat Indy-Anna living with us so we have quite a houseful. Sammy and
Honey-Brown have become best buddies and Sammy is very protective of his
feline siblings. It sometimes can get a little "hairy" around here but
there's never a dull moment and the house is filled with love.
