Blue, the Dog of the Day
Name: Blue
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male Breed: Chow, Collie mix
Home: Detroit, Michigan, USA

Blue is just an absolutely hilarious dog! He greets every day with enthusiasm. I went to pick up Blue when he was just six weeks old when I found him on petfinder. His owner refused to keep the dogs until they were eight weeks. His parents were show dogs who 'made a mistake' and he wanted to get rid of the evidence.

Blue looooves people and other dogs. When people are too far away to pet him or if there's another dog that he wants the attention of he will some times do this yodel type of howl that almost sounds like someone crying! He doesn't do it often, but he does do it at the pet store. I think he knows he's bound to get flocked by attention with it there. He also tries to 'share' his pig ears. He'll drop it at my feet and lay across the room watching me. When I pick it up he'll come over and when I try to give it to him he wiggles away and dances around like its the greatest thing ever and he wants me to take a bite. (Pig ears aren't quite my style.) He's just happy and cute and vivacious every day of his life.

Blue does know tricks. He can settle (lay on his side), crawl, spin, and blink on command! However, it's hit and miss. He does something kind of on his own terms and that's okay by me. His favorite thing is the dog park, where he runs around all the dogs until they finally run with him. It's his favorite thing in the world. He's very particular about toys, no plastic for him at all! His favorite is his Iqube which he loves, just empty. The soft empty balls that come in it he sometimes carries around squeaking for hours, for no reason at all. He's not overly affectionate at home but with strangers he can't get enough love. He loves to have his back scratched. While I say he's not affectionate, whenever there are other dogs around, he stands about five feet away from me and back up toward me until his butt is against me or he's standing directly in my lap. Just his little thing to let people know I'm his, I suppose!

He's very protective of his yard. Mostly he's protective against squirrels, his arch nemesis. He chases bunnies all the time but once he finally caught one he just kept bumping it with his nose and pawing at it to try to play! He's a sweet boy. His vet and his groomer both, while acknowledging his hyperness, say he's the most well intentioned dog they've ever seen. He's crazy, but he means well.
